What we know about you

We know the postcodes you watch, because that's what the product is for. This page explains exactly what Doorstep Alerts Ltd ("we", "us") collects when you use Doorstep, and what we do and don't do with it.

What we store

• Locations you add — the postcode, radius and alert types for each place you watch.
• Watched planning applications and the settings you choose (theme, digest frequency).

This information is stored on your device. We do not currently require an account, and nothing above is tied to your identity on our end.

Location lookups

If you use "Use my location" to find your postcode, that lookup happens once, on your device, to resolve a postcode. We do not continuously track your location, and we do not store precise GPS coordinates.

Crime data

To build your crime digest, the postcode you're watching is resolved to an approximate map coordinate and used to query two services that don't require you to create an account with them:

• postcodes.io — a free, public UK postcode lookup service, to convert your postcode into a coordinate.
• data.police.uk — the official UK police open data API, to fetch recent crime records near that coordinate.

We only ever display a summary at outcode level (e.g. "M20"), never your exact address, and we don't log which specific coordinate was queried against your identity.

What we don't do

• No advertising, and no advertising SDKs.
• No ad identifiers, fingerprinting, or cross-app tracking.
• No selling or sharing of your data with third parties for marketing.
• No social network SDKs embedded in the app.

Your data, your control

From the Privacy Hub in the app you can export everything we hold about your watched locations as a JSON file, or delete it entirely, in two taps — no need to email support to ask.

Changes to this policy

If Doorstep introduces optional accounts, subscriptions or new data sources in future, this page will be updated first, in plain language, before the change ships.
